Tool status and provenance labels as recorded in inventory v6 — not a ranked maturity scale.
Year distribution among the 202 selected publications, not annual output for the wider research field.
This Sankey is built from the 43 inventory entries only, using their recorded primary urban domain, AI / analytical method and purpose. Select a node or flow to inspect the exact entries behind it.
Flow width represents the number of entries. “Not specified” means the AI/analytical method field is empty. “Other” remains the original inventory category. Secondary classifications are not used in this plot. A flow indicates shared labels, not that the method has been independently validated.

We carried out a state-of-the-art literature review using Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection, covering research published from 2018 to September 2026, together with citation tracking and complementary sources.
The review looks beyond technical methods to consider practical applications, decision-support capabilities, validation and limitations.
Urban AI is valuable when its outputs help people make decisions. This collection highlights applications ranging from forecasting and monitoring to simulation, scenario analysis, optimization and participatory planning.
Where available, the entries also describe how solutions have been tested or used in practice.
The full catalogue will be available to download through Zenodo, supporting open access and reuse.
The collection can be updated with new tools, publications and supporting references as research and applications evolve.
